THE PROBLEM

Art is a popular topic of study. It is a useful medium in that it has more to offer and teach than just art. Therefore, faculty members, especially teachers and professors, rely on art to effectively spread knowledge about whatever they want to teach to students. An art teacher may want to provide an example artwork to her students that demonstrate specific styles that she wants them to apply to their work. A computer science professor may want to gather color scheme data from a particular painting that has a history of rusting colors, so that students can program an application that hypothesizes the painting’s original colors. However, how can teachers and professors find the specific art that they are looking for when there are billions of artworks that exist in the world? How can the efficiently find the perfect artwork that best demonstrates what they want to teach without having to surf through the internet for hours?

THE SOLUTION

This is where ArtShare comes in – ArtShare is (or will be) a forum dedicated to spreading art from one educator to another by categorizing the art by keywords and sending them through to the ArtShare database. The keywords can be anything, as they will be categorized by subject – perhaps the artwork one is suggesting to the ArtShare community have particular paint strokes, apply bright color schemes, belong to a unique genre, and would be useful to examine the age of paint. Categorizing art like this not only is helpful to art teachers and art history professors, but also, for example, chemistry professors that want to find art that would help them explain the science of color paint. A user – who would be a professor, teacher, or faculty member – would be able to suggest an artwork and its associating keywords or search for an artwork by plugging in keywords into a search engine. That way, any faculty member will be able to search for the art they are looking for.
